Welcome to Monte Sacro, the district of the Best Western Ars Hotel Rome

The territory now occupied by the Monte Sacro district appears inhabited since very ancient times. Some fossil remains dating back to 120,000 years ago have been found here. The neighborhood was built in 1920 with a project that kept in mind the experience of English city gardens, in fact it was called Città Giardino Aniene

To visit is the Church of the Santi Angeli Custodi to the city gardens, built in the twentieth century in Baroque style. The church overlooks Piazza Sempione, it is in the style of transition between the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries with the slightly convex facade and an elegant window instead of the rose window under the tympanum. On the facade there is the writing "Angelis Custodibus".

Do not miss to visit is the Nomentano Bridge, with which the Via Nomentana crosses the Aniene river. It is a Roman-era construction of which the central arch of the first century is preserved, the upper part raised and fortified in the Middle Ages. According to tradition, the meeting between Charlemagne and Leo III took place here in the year 800. Stendhal visited him on April 18, 1828 and in he talks about the beauty of the place and the excellent Italian coffee. The bridge was portrayed by painters, artists, photographers for its characteristic and bleak appearance and for the majesty of the main arch on which stands the turreted and embattled complex of the Middle Ages.
